Food and Family Traditions

To anyone who has grown a garden or just a potted tomato plant, it is a rewarding experience when done right. The smell of a fresh tomato is unlike what you find in the stores. As I post this, our family in Sicily is preparing the tomatoes for tomato paste & sun dried tomatoes. I have personally seen the amount of work that goes into this process. The slabs of wood- specifically used for only this- with halved tomatoes soaking up the sun and turning into these sweet, yet savory, pieces of tomato goodness. Later to be used in salads, pastas and, my personal favorite, stuffed tomatoes! We offer a few dishes on our Chef Speciality menu that have these wonderful bits of my childhood memories. A definite MUST TRY!!!
