No matter how much time will ever pass, I will never forget the kisses of my Nonna Maria! All my dad’s side of the family lived in New Jersey, while just the 5 of us lived here in Chicago, however we did see them at least 1-2 times a year. I may have only been 10 when she passed, but her smile, her kisses and the sound of her laugh repeat in my mind when I need them the most. Next week, will be the 25th anniversary of her death, and it still hurts like it was yesterday. I look back at all my pictures with her and see how they all had one thing in common. How we all came together to break bread, the act of eating a family meal wasn’t only to nourish our bodies, but to nourish our souls and participate in the gathering of loved ones. Everyone would have loved my Nonna, I would have loved to share her with all of you too. But at least I can share with you her love of family and food……Buon Appetito! Happy St. Patrick’s Day and Happy St. Joseph’s Day. There will definitely be a zeppole or two eaten for her!
